Jeet Kune Do

Jeet Kune Do is the name for the concepts and philosophy developed by the late Bruce Lee with his student, training partner and friend, Dan Inosanto. Translated from Cantonese Jeet Kune Do means "The Way Of The Intercepting Fist". More than just a collection of memorized techniques, Jeet Kune Do is a method for developing the attributes (e.g. timing, sensitivity, speed) necessary to survive an actual street fight.

Jeet Kune Do is simple, practical and direct. There are no coloured belts, uniforms or trophies. Jeet Kune Do teaches all ranges of unarmed combat including kicking, boxing/punching, trapping, grappling/ground work, plus the versatile weapons systems of Filipino Kali – and the flow between ranges. Through study of Jeet Kune Do we learn effective self-defence, building self-awareness and harnessing our emotional content.

A truly international martial art, Jeet Kune Do teaches us to learn without prejudice. It encourages creativity and discovery, mindfulness and holism. Jeet Kune Do is not only the art of war, but truly the art of peace.

About Us

The JKD Family is a group of Canadian Jeet Kune Do Concepts Instructors who are students and/or alumni of the Kabayama Bushidokan. We gather together regularly to continue our learning process in a professional environment with our peers.

The JKD Family shares complimentary philosophies about Jeet Kune Do concepts emphasizing the art of self-preservation over aesthetics or sports, although many of our students do participate and compete in many martial arts competitions and events.

Schools

We have several instructors in the Toronto area. Who you decide to train with depends on if you have a specific instructor in mind or if a specific location works better for you.

Group, private and semi-private instruction is available by appointment, so please feel free to contact any of the schools for more information.
